Trends in Prescribing of Antibiotics and Drugs Investigated for COVID-19 Treatment in U.S. Nursing Home Residents During the COVID-19 Pandemic

CONCLUSIONS: During the pandemic, large numbers of residents were prescribed drugs investigated for COVID-19 treatment, and an increase in prescribing of antibiotics commonly used for respiratory infections was observed. Prescribing of these drugs may increase the risk of adverse events, without providing clear benefits. Surveillance of NH prescribing practices is critical to evaluate concordance with guideline-recommended therapy and improve resident safety.

Long-term use of liposomal nebulized amikacin and tedizolid for the treatment of disseminated nocardiosis after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation

Nocardiosis is a life-threatening opportunistic infection in immunocompromised patients. Herein, we present successful adjunctive use of liposomal nebulized amikacin and tedizolid in a recipient of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation infected with Nocardia nova complex who presented multiple complications to conventional therapeutic options.

Co-Infection Pneumonia with <em>Mycobacterium abscessus</em> and <em>Pneumocystis jiroveci</em> in a Patient without HIV Infection Diagnosed by Metagenomic Next-Generation Sequencing

CONCLUSION: Co-infection pneumonia with M. abscessus and P. jirovecii as reported here is exceptionally rare. mNGS is a powerful tool for pathogen detection. M. abscessus infection could be a risk factor for P. jirovecii infection. This case report supports the value of mNGS in diagnosing of M. abscessus and P. jirovecii, and highlights the inadequacies of conventional diagnostic methods.
