In vitro Antimicrobial Synergy Testing of Extensively Drug-Resistant Clinical Isolates at an Organ Transplant Center in Nepal

CONCLUSION: A significant proportion of isolates were MDR among which a large fraction was XDR. The combination of meropenem, amikacin and colistin with one another in pair showed beneficial activity in vitro. Such combinations can be utilized as effective therapy for XDR infections. Further studies are required to confirm these findings, and accordingly treatment protocols should be developed in the management of such infections.

Clinical, Immunological, and Genetic Features in 938 Patients with Autoimmune Polyendocrinopathy Candidiasis Ectodermal Dystrophy (APECED): a Systematic Review

CONCLUSION: Beside penetrance diversity, our review revealed a diverse affected ethnicity (mainly from Italy followed by Finland and Ireland). APECED can initially present in adolescence as 5.2% of the patients were older than 18 years at the disease onset. According to the variety of clinical conditions, which in the majority of patients appear gradually over time, clinical management deserves a separate analysis.

Cefepime use: A need for antimicrobial stewardship

CONCLUSION: Notwithstanding a highly sizable majority of validated indications, a very small proportion of cefepime prescriptions met all the criteria for proper use. In the context of increased cefepime consumption, which is favored by its increased place in the latest recommendations published in 2019, proper use of cefepime prescriptions needs to be more effectively promoted.
