Efficacy and safety of tedizolid in a patient with linezolid-induced neutropenia: A case report

Linezolid is used to treat prosthetic joint infection after total hip arthroplasty. Here, we present a case of linezolid-induced severe neutropenia, which improved after switching to tedizolid. Grade 3 neutropenia developed 5 days after linezolid injection (1,200 mg/day) and 33 days after oral administration of the same dose. However, during the 70 days of treatment with tedizolid, grade 3 neutropenia did not occur, and C-reactive protein levels remained in the normal range. No grade ≥ 1…

Multidrug-Resistant Extended-Spectrum β-Lactamase-Producing Escherichia coli Pathotypes in North Eastern Region of India: Backyard Small Ruminants-Human-Water Interface

A total of 648 diarrheagenic Escherichia coli (DEC) were isolated from calves (n = 219), lambs (n = 87), kids (n = 103), human (n = 193), and water (n = 46) samples. The presence of enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC), enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC), and shigatoxigenic E. coli (STEC) was confirmed by PCR-based detection of the Shiga toxin, intimin, hemolysin, and enterotoxin genes. All the isolates were tested for antimicrobial resistance (AMR) by disc diffusion assay. Extended-spectrum β-lactamase…

Long-Term Mortality and Active Tuberculosis Disease Among Patients Who Were Lost to Follow-Up During Second-Line Tuberculosis Treatment in 2011-2014: Population-Based Study in the Country of Georgia

CONCLUSIONS: Approximately one quarter of patients on second-line TB treatment who were LFU died. Among those LFU evaluated in our study, 1 in 7 remained in the community with positive sputum cultures. To reduce death and transmission of disease, additional strategies are needed to encourage patients to complete treatment.

Comparing mRNA expression and protein abundance in MDR Mycobacterium tuberculosis: Novel protein candidates, Rv0443, Rv0379 and Rv0147 as TB potential diagnostic or therapeutic targets

Tuberculosis (TB) is a sizable public health threat in the world. This study was conducted to determine the differential protein composition between susceptible and MDRTB strains. Tuberculosis proteins were extracted by Triton™ X-114 and ammonium sulfate. Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis protein spots were selected for identification by mass spectrometry and mRNA expression levels were measured by real- time PCR. 2DE-Western blot and T cell epitope prediction for identified proteins were made…

High Rate of Bacterial Contamination on Healthcare Worker’s Mobile Phone and Potential Role in Dissemination of Healthcare-Associated Infection at Debre Berhan Referral Hospital, North Shoa Zone, Ethiopia

CONCLUSION: Healthcare worker’s MP was contaminated with pathogenic bacteria. Since MP could serve as a vehicle and a reservoir for pathogenic bacteria, HCWs should be aware of the public health risks of HCAI, and appropriate intervention mechanisms should be practiced to reduce the burden and cross-transmission.
